This past Blitz Build season, the Home Builders Foundation (“HBF”) once again brought together builders, tradespeople, volunteer crews, and sponsors from across the Front Range for their signature program: Blitz Build.  From May through October, Blitz Build weekends give HBF clients, those living with physical disabilities, access to something many of us take for granted: safe, accessible entries and pathways in their own homes.

This year, a volunteer team from HHMR was happy to ditch a day at the office to roll up their sleeves, bring skill and heart, and help transform lives through their work on help create a now porch and ramp in an effort to restore independence and dignity.

Why Blitz Build Matters

  • Independence & safety: Many of HBF’s clients are elderly, young, or living with disability.  Ramps, landings, railing fixes—these are not cosmetic; they are essential for mobility and safety at home. Colorado Homes & Lifestyles+1

  • Free for those being served: All labor, materials, and permits are covered by donations, sponsors, and volunteers.  The recipients don’t pay.

  • Community & connection: The Blitz Build isn’t just construction work, it is a chance to connect, to serve, to witness gratitude, and to be reminded of how much difference a few hours and some teamwork can make.  HHMR’s team members remarked on the pride they felt when they completed the project, and they saw the family able to safely use their front door again.

About Home Builders Foundation’s Blitz Build

  • Blitz Build operates from May through October.  Each “blitz” spans a few days and involves multiple project crews working across neighborhoods to build ramps, patios, landings, railings, etc.

  • “Crews” can be contractors, companies in the building trades, or groups of volunteers.  Sponsorship and donations help cover costs.

  • HBF’s mission: build independence, provide opportunities, elevate lives for individuals and families with disabilities.

How You Can Help: Get Involved

If the work of HHMR and HBF inspires you, here are ways you can contribute:

  1. Volunteer a crew — Whether you’re a builder, tradesperson, or someone willing to help with general labor (painting, cleaning up, assisting), there is a place for you.

  2. Sponsor a build or provide materials — Financial contributions, material donations, or equipment help make the projects possible and free for homeowners.

  3. Join a paint crew — Even when the structural work is done, there’s often finishing work. Paint crews are always needed.

  4. Spread the word — Help raise awareness by sharing posts, photos, and stories.  Personal testimonies make a big difference.

  5. Apply for assistance — If you or someone you know needs an accessible ramp or other home modifications, HBF may be able to help.
