How secure is your LinkedIn account?

October is cybersecurity month, so it’s a good time to think about the security of your digital accounts, including LinkedIn. One of the best ways to keep your LinkedIn account secure is by using two-factor authentication, or what LinkedIn calls Two-Step Verification.

Adding Two-Factor Authentication to Your Account

Two-factor authentication means that you need more than just your password to log into your account. You would also need a code you receive on your phone via text message or through an authenticator app such as Microsoft Authenticator.

I was speaking with a colleague recently whose LinkedIn account was hacked; the person managed to break into her account, change her password, and put their name and photo on her account, with all of her content – posts, articles, etc. still attached.

My bet is that she didn’t have two-factor authentication enabled on her account.

You can find the setting to add two-step verification to your account by going to Settings and Privacy in your LinkedIn account, clicking on Sign in and Security, and choosing Two-Step Verification.
