Why AI is Here to Stay in Legal Blogging

AI has been heralded by many as one of the most transformative technologies of our time—some even say AI is more significant than the creation of the Internet itself.

While Wall Street debates the potential of an AI bubble, I tend to side with those who believe this technology is fundamentally changing how we work, live, and, yes, write.

Regardless of whether AI’s meteoric rise continues or tapers off, one thing is clear: AI has already changed how we approach writing—including in the world of legal blogging.

For legal professionals, blogging is an essential tool for learning, sharing insights, demonstrating expertise, and educating both clients and colleagues. How we write has evolved.

AI tools, particularly those powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT (whether directly or via third-party applications using OpenAI’s API), have become partners in our writing process. From generating new ideas and finding sources to reviewing drafts and gathering thoughts, AI complements our human efforts. It’s not about letting AI take over, but using AI to refine and elevate the quality of our work.

AI empowers legal bloggers to do a more advanced job in delivering content to our audience. We remain the sole authors of our posts, but with AI, we’re able to serve our readers—and ourselves—more efficiently and effectively. This partnership allows us to focus on the core of legal blogging: offering unique insight and making complex topics accessible.

For those legal bloggers already using AI, I encourage you to continue exploring its capabilities. Just as we learned to navigate Google and the broader Internet, we can learn to harness AI’s potential.

For those who haven’t yet dabbled with AI in your blogging, I suggest giving it a try. AI isn’t about doing the work for us or handing over content we blindly accept. It’s a tool—like the computer itself—that helps us work smarter and better.

This is not unlike Bill Gates’ vision over three decades ago, when he set out to put a computer on every desk and in every home. We didn’t quite understand how a computer could revolutionize our lives. Today, AI is in the same place—try it, experiment with it, and you’ll find ways it can benefit you as a legal blogger.
