Most lawyers think they need to sound polished to be taken seriously. That is backwards. Chris and I agree that the posts that get attention and build trust are the ones that sound like a real person. Not a verdict recap, not a humblebrag, not a press release. Stories, lessons, hard moments, and honest observations stop the scroll because they feel relatable. You do not need to overshare, but you do need to be recognizable.
Pick the Right Platform, Then Commit
Visibility is not about being everywhere. It is about being consistent where your buyers and referral partners actually live. LinkedIn is ideal for relationships, referral work, and professional credibility. Consumer facing lawyers often need Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, or TikTok to reach the people who hire them. The key is to pick a lane and stick with it long enough to build momentum. One platform done consistently beats five platforms done randomly.
Start With Stories, Not “Marketing”
When lawyers stall, it is usually because they do not know what to say. Chris’s advice is to start with what shaped you. Early career struggles, mistakes, setbacks, and what you learned from them. Those posts build trust faster than any “we are excited to announce” update. If you are stuck, answer one question: what did you learn this week that could help a client, a colleague, or a younger lawyer?
Use What You Already Have and Repurpose It
The best content strategy is leverage, not constant invention. One podcast can turn into short clips, quote graphics, posts, emails, and talking points for weeks. One strong post can be refreshed and reused later. AI can help speed this up, outline ideas, tighten language, and generate variations, but you still need to edit for accuracy and make sure it sounds like you. Your job is direction and judgment, not typing.
Give First, Then Ask
If all you do is promote yourself, people tune out and platforms bury you. The lawyers who win long term give value first, teaching, sharing, and helping more often than they sell. Then when they mention what they offer, it lands because trust is already there. A simple rule is to publish content that makes someone smarter, calmer, or more confident after reading it.
Chris’s Big Mistake
Chris shared that for too long he let anger drive him. It took a toll until he chose to address it directly and do the work to get healthier. His message was direct, this profession will chew you up if you ignore what is happening under the surface. If you feel burned out, exhausted, or constantly on edge, do not try to muscle through it. Get support and fix it, because your career is not worth sacrificing your life.
Closing Thoughts
If you want 2026 to be different, stop waiting to feel ready. Build a habit. Post once a week if that is realistic, then earn your way to more consistency. Tell real stories, teach what you know, and use AI to move faster without sounding generic. In a market getting louder by the day, silence is not neutral. It is invisible.
